25th June 2008: New beginnings and UCATT commentary

Hi and welcome to the first post in what will be the Gabem blog. We're going to try to keep this up to date as much as possible, it'll be me the Gabem web guy, members of our client relations team and whoever else we can draft in for writing duties. We've started this to keep you better up to date with relevant changes in the contracting industry, things you should look out for and to let you know about things happening here at Waterside.

As yet we haven't been able to find blogging software compatible with the products we use today, so for the time being it will be just us posting things to this page. If you want to make suggestions, or make a comment to us there will be a link after each post that you can use to contact us, and we'd be glad to hear your views.

Okay so first actual topic: some of you may have seen UCATT's recent call to abolish CIS to end "bogus self-employment", we don't know what your take on it is, but Trudy Gordon our managing director felt strongly enough about it that she wrote a letter commenting on it. Contract Journal printed it in their last issue, but it's also available here for you all to see.

You may have seen a few changes around the site lately, we've cut a lot of the old pages that we felt were clutter and tried to reform it all into more accessible chunks in our FAQ and Glossary pages. We're now at the stage where we're adding even more, for example, Susan's Legal Bit's has started up in the information section alongside information on the pension scheme you can join with Friends Provident.

I hope that we've been suitably informative as a first post, if you'd like to comment or suggest anything please just click on Hugo below.
