Holiday Pay
When working through a Gabem Umbrella Company, holiday pay is an important part of your overall pay package. We are required by law to retain your holiday pay until you want to claim it rather than include the holiday pay in your regular pay packet. This is to encourage you to take holidays for health and safety reasons as well as being able to recharge your batteries, spend time with your family or whatever you do to relax.
You can claim your holiday pay whenever you want, even if you have worked that week, but you should bear in mind that this may have tax implications (see below).
Claiming Holiday Pay
The best way to set about claiming your holiday pay is to call in to our customer services department (01798 861 100) or request a call back from them. This is because we will always have to speak to you before actioning any holiday pay request, so calling us first cuts out a step.
The reason a call is necessary is because we want to ensure that when you take your holiday pay, you are getting the most out of your payment. Due to the fact that holiday pay is only taxed when it is paid out, it is important that you try to take it in a week when you are either not receiving payment or when you are only being paid for part of a normal week's work.
If you were to request holiday pay when you had a full weeks payment go through it could potentially push your gross up high enough that you start getting taxed at the 40% rate, something we'd all prefer to avoid.
With enough warning holiday pay can be paid out any weekday except Thursday, so the sooner you tell us the better.
For those of you being paid fortnightly or four weekly your payment will have to coincide with one of your normal payments so as not to disrupt and potentially delay your being paid.
Holiday Pay Quick Checklist
Call in and speak to someone in customer services as soon as you know you will be taking holiday, or as soon as you know you will need it
Send in your request for holiday pay in writing (email and text are acceptable)
Make sure you won't be paid the week the holiday pay is paid out, or be prepared for a lower payment than if you had holiday pay paid on it's own
Enjoy your time off!
